In case you missed it, last year, a rumor was circulating online that Disney was reportedly planning a sixth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. At the time, X owner Elon Musk decided to weigh in on the report — sharing some not-so-nice thoughts. In February 2024, Elon re-shared a post with the headline “Disney Considers Ayo Edebiri as Replacement for Johnny Depp in ‘Pirates 6.’” Notably, there was nothing at the time to suggest this report was legit, and to this day, Disney has not commented on it. However, that didn’t stop Elon from giving his two cents at the time, sharing the post with his followers and saying, “Disney sucks.” Elon’s post, (which, at the time of writing, has not been deleted from his X page), currently has over 60M views and thousands of engagements. And amid his recent controversies, Ayo herself took to Instagram to share her experience after Elon’s post went viral last year. Sharing a screenshot of Elon’s post, Ayo wrote, “just remembering when I got some of the most insane death threats and racial slurs of my life (idk if it’s the #1 moment, but for sure top 3) for a fake reboot of a movie I have never even heard of because of this man LMAO.” “so not only is he a double s**g h**l-ing fascist, he’s an idiot 🥰 but anyway 🥰,” she continued. “life is, of course, a gift 🫶🏾” Ayo added. Ayo’s callout came after she shared a post from comedian Bill Burr who called Elon a “guy who can’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag,” in a recent interview with NPR’s Fresh Air. Elsewhere in the interview, Bill criticized Elon for his extremely controversial salute during a recent public appearance at the presidential inauguration. Ayo shared his words on her Instagram story with the bullseye emoji, saying, “Bill Burr. Every time!” As of right now, there is no evidence to suggest that Ayo was ever in consideration to “replace” Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. However, Ayo joked on Instagram that despite the grim situation, she would “eat up” the role. “You’re licherally Caribbean!” wrote screenwriter Camilla Blackett in a DM Ayo shared.
