For example, in August 2023, she told Elle UK that she found freedom in embracing her body as it is, saying: “I speak the way I do about my body because I’m not trying to hide the cellulite on my thigh or the squidge in between my arm and my boob: I would much rather lay it all out.”
Before this, she told Vogue that she’d “never” consider losing weight “to look fantastic for a role.”
And now, in a brand-new cover interview for British Vogue, the 28-year-old got real about embracing her insecurities and looking beyond “mean” criticism about her appearance.
“It’s so hard, [the internet’s] a very mean place,” she said. “It’s really painful to read people being nasty about my confidence or nasty about my weight. It never feels good.”
Notably, Florence was asked if she’s always been “body confident,” to which she said: “I think it’s just, like, I don’t want to be anyone else.”
Despite this, the Midsommar star did say she’s had to learn how to portray a “completely different version” of herself during photoshoots.
Unfortunately, body scrutiny is inevitable for many celebrities, particularly when, like Florence, they’re in the midst of a busy time in their careers.
From Black Widow and Don’t Worry Darling to Oppenheimer and Dune: Part Two, Florence’s major movie roles have meant she’s been pretty consistently in the public eye since the success of Midsommar and Little Women back in 2019.
And so, it’ll come as no surprise to hear that she suddenly found herself in need of a break from it all over the summer.
“I’m an absolute work maniac, [but] I can see I’m exhausted,” she said, telling British Vogue she “actually asked for a summer break” for the “first time ever” this year.
